1. Ensure the builder you select uses a Victorian Domestic Building Contract. SPASA Member Builders have access to a pool specific contract that offers legal protection for the client and the builder.
2. Ensure your selected builder is not requesting a deposit greater than 5%. (Victorian legislation states that the maximum deposit that can be requested on a project with a value greater than $20k is 5%.
3. Ensure you have viewed a copy of the builders insurance eligibility.
4. Ensure you have been provided with a copy of your approved building permit and site specific insurance before being requested to make a large progress payment.
Do some research; make sure you select a pool builder with a physical address.
Do they have a shop or office you can visit to discuss your project?
What if you have an issue? Selecting a pool builder with a retail shop or office that is open for business is always the best idea. Selecting a builder with a P.O box for an address can make it difficult to contact them if you do have any issues post installation.

Where are the pools made?
It’s a great idea to select a pool builder whose pools are made locally. Some companies use pools from other states that can often mean not only expensive freight costs, but also a shell that has travelled a long way, not to mention the very real issues associated with multi stacking. It is also ideal to use a builder who has access to more than just a single manufacturer's pools. What sort of after sales service is offered?
Select a pool builder with a Pool Service technician on their team. Although pools these days are very easy to run (and often almost fully automated) you will still have questions and require some assistance post installation.
